It's been awhile since we had a code challenge here on the forum. I would like to propose a code challenge to parse XML content and extract the data. I've attached a G/L Accounts XML file that is the response from a query to a QuickBooks Online developer sandbox company.

The goal is to extract the <Id>, <Name>, <AccountType> and  <CurrentBalance> as a list.

I think that most DDTer's will remain using PowerBASIC, and the ones that will switch, will choose another compiler like Pure Basic with many "gadgets". Anything but learning SDK proramming.

I would have thought José would have got it by now that BASIC programmers want to program in BASIC not C which is what he is referring as SDK programmers.

SYNOPSIS
       sl [ -alFe ]

DESCRIPTION
       sl Displays animations aimed to correct users who accidentally enter sl instead of ls.  SL stands for Steam Locomotive.

OPTIONS
       -a     An accident seems to happen. You'll feel pity for people who cry for help.

       -l     shows little one.

       -F     It flies.

       -e     Allow interrupt by Ctrl+C.

I thought it might be fun to try and reproduce this in BASIC.

Code and examples / Array Code Challenge

The BaCon project has a string append benchmark / research effort going to resolve BaCon's string management problems.

I would like to move on to array variables and how languages deal with them.

Challenge Definition:

The goal is to create an array that contains the the DEC, HEX, Symbol values for the ASCII table. (DEC 0 - 255)

I'm really happy to see the progress you have made with extending MY-BASIC. Even though I wish you were doing this in SDL so it could be ported to Android, seeing how you extended MY-BASIC will be worth its weight in gold anyway.

Can you run the Mandlebrot again and wait to do the sync until the end? Updating the canvas with every pixel is painful in any language.

It would be great if you could join us on All BASIC and collaborate with the 12 other BASIC developers that are members there.

Reminds me of Business Basic in a way. I like it as well. The 64 bit Linux binary runs fine on my Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit laptop.

I'm looking at porting this to Android Linux.

I don't know if you guys remember JAPI or not but I think it's a cool extension to any language now that Java is so popular on Android. It was abandoned it seems back in 2003 with the binaries compiled for AWT. After looking over the source, I noticed a Swing version of the Java code. I compiled the Swing version of the Java code building JAPI.jar and used that as the japiserver. Everything seems to work fine and I'm blown away how fast it is. I posted the ScriptBasic version of JAPI on the SB forum and I attached the japi.dll & japi.h (generic version) to this post. It would be interesting to see how this would work as a 2D game engine.

I don't know if these games qualify as candidates for the Retogamecoding Forum so let me know. The games are written in ScriptBasic using the Simple Window library and the new DLLC (FFI) extension module. If I get approval, I'll post them here.
